A digital collage of male and female Rufous Hummingbirds in a simulated courtship flight. Birds were layered over a sunset image from Lake Havasu, AZ using Adobe Photoshop. Rufous Hummingbird photographs were taken in Southern California during their Spring migration.
My interest in photography dates back to the 1960s when as a graduate student at the University of Arizona I built my own darkroom and experimented with black and white images using 35 mm & 2 1/4" film formats. I am a biologist and retired (2004) college professor. Toward the end of my career, the digital revolution rekindled my interest in photography with the computer replacing the darkroom. I became interested in microphotography and made many digital images of biological specimens for teaching/research purposes. This was back when a 3 megapixel Nikon camera was state of the art!
